In Neapolitan initial consonants are often doubled, under the following conditions:
- all feminine plural nouns preceded by feminine definite articles or adjective
- all singular neuter sounds preceded by a neuter singular definite article or adjective
- words following "trigger words" (see list below)
Consonants are not doubled when there is a pause following a triggering word or when the initial consonant is followed by another consonant
